High Adventure began its support of the Nakyessa primary and secondary schools in 2004 when founder Bishop Grivas Musisi shared the vision for Christian education in this area where people from many Ugandan tribal backgrounds have settled.
High Adventure consulted with Canadian experts and developed an overall plan of school success that included an on-site medical clinic that would meet the needs of the school’s 600 student population and local villagers within a 10-mile perimeter.
After addressing health concerns, High Adventure focused on water since Nakyessa is located in one of Uganda’s driest regions and experiences drought conditions regularly. Nakyessa friends provided a 310’ bore hole, but volume was insufficient to meet the onsite demands when coupled with village needs.
High Adventure focused on water consumption vs. secure supply, factoring in the 5-month dry seasons and decided upon a plan of redundancy utilizing a series of in-ground water cisterns fed and pre-filtered by school building roofs, with secondary and final stage filtration at point of consumption.
Primary school capacity is now at 115,000 liters (of a necessary 150,000) and secondary school is at 50,000 (of a necessary 200,000 liters).
Both schools require final stage water filtration through bio sand filters.
